Welcome to the Lincoln County Historical Society Website! Rooted in the diverse history of south/central New Mexico, Lincoln County encompasses stories of frontier settlement, ranching traditions, military trails, political milestones, and the multicultural communities that shaped the region. The county was the setting of the turbulent Lincoln County War, and also played a role in the early political life of the state, being home to William C. McDonald, New Mexico's first statehood governor, as well as home to frontier forts, early railroad towns, mining camps, ghost towns, and more!
